Payout
Request a transfer to your IBAN from €20. Smaller amounts build up on your balance.
Crediting your balance and transferring to your IBAN are separate steps. You can request a payout from €20; it’s processed within a day.
Commission tiersListing your profile is free
You only pay commission on lessons you’ve taught, and it goes down as you gain experience.
The more lessons, the lower the commission
Listing your profile is free. Commission is only taken from paid lessons you’ve taught and depends on how many you’ve already taught on the platform.
Tier 1, 25% commission. 100 more paid lessons to reach the 20% tier. Figures are before tax.
Bar height - the platform’s commission; below it - what you keep per lesson at the price on the left. The dark bar - your tier. Free intro lessons don’t count towards tiers. Figures are before tax.
Rules without the small print
The essentials on earnings, payouts and intro lessons - before you fill in the application.
- Lesson money is held for 48 hours
- If you were both in the lesson, the student doesn’t need to confirm it. 48 hours after the lesson ends, if there’s no complaint, your fee minus commission goes to your Zinītis balance. If one of you wasn’t in the room, an administrator will check the lesson.
More
- If the student has complained, the money waits for an administrator’s decision: the review takes up to 5 days.
- The amount for each lesson is shown in its row in your account.
- Payout to IBAN on request
- You request a transfer to your IBAN yourself, at any time, from €20. Requests are processed within a day.
More
Add your IBAN in “Profile and settings”. Money on your balance isn’t sent to your bank account by itself. If a payout fails, it’s marked “Declined” or “Returned” with the reason.
- The free intro lesson is unpaid
- An intro lesson with a student lasts from 20 minutes. It’s free for the student, and the tutor isn’t paid for it.
More
- A student gets 3 free intro lessons within 90 days, one with each tutor.
- Intro lessons don’t count towards commission tiers.
- You can’t switch off intro lessons in your profile: running them is part of working on the platform.
- Commission only on paid lessons
- Listing your profile is free. Commission is calculated from the lesson price.
More
- Students pay for each paid lesson separately when they book it.
- There’s no service fee for students: they pay exactly your price.
- Contact details stay private
- Messages and payments stay inside Zinītis. A student can leave a review after at least two lessons with you.
More
Lessons outside the platform aren’t protected for you or the student: there’s no lesson recording and no help from an administrator in a dispute. Places in the catalogue aren’t for sale.
- Cancelling and rescheduling
- It’s better to suggest rescheduling: you agree a new time in your account, and the money and lesson stay as they are.
More
- Either side can suggest rescheduling, and the other replies - within 48 hours of the suggestion, but no later than the start of the lesson. If there’s no reply or it’s declined, the lesson stays at the original time.
- If you cancel a lesson, you aren’t paid for it and the price goes back to the student’s Zinītis balance.
- If you don’t turn up for a lesson, the student can complain within 48 hours of its end; after a check, the price goes back to their balance.
- If a student cancels late, you get the lesson price minus commission. A student can cancel for free no later than 24 hours before the start; later cancellations are charged. You’re credited once the 5 minutes in which the student can restore the lesson have passed.
- If the student doesn’t turn up, tell an administrator. Once the no-show is confirmed, you get the lesson price minus commission.
Questions from tutors
In short: the application, students, lessons and support.
Application and requirements
Which subjects can I teach?
School subjects - from maths and languages to history and computer science - and university ones: higher maths, physics, chemistry, programming, engineering graphics.
If your subject isn’t on the application list, choose “Other” and describe it in your profile description.
Do I need teaching experience?
There’s no formal requirement, but the team looks at relevant education and subject knowledge.
Senior university students and PhD students can apply too.
Students and schedule
How do students find a tutor?
In the catalogue: students filter by subject, grade or year, price, rating and available times, then open a profile.
Your profile shows your story and approach, reviews and schedule.
How do I set my available times?
In your account, under “Learning plan”: open the slots when you’re ready to teach.
Students can only book open slots. Bookings appear under “Schedule”.
Lessons and materials
Where do lessons happen and where are materials kept?
In the Zinītis lesson room: video, a shared whiteboard and a lesson recording - no Zoom or outside links. Lessons are online only.
The topic, summary, task and materials are saved on the lesson card in your account. The lesson recording is kept for 30 days and can be downloaded; you’ll get a reminder a week before it’s deleted.
Complaints and support
What if a student complains about a lesson?
A student can complain within 48 hours of the end of the lesson. A complaint opens a chat with an administrator.
While the complaint is being reviewed, the money for this lesson is on hold. An administrator decides; the review takes up to 5 days.
